The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is a 5 day hike in the Annapurna mountain range in Nepal. It takes a moderate level of fitness to complete, and the max elevation is 3,210 meters (so there's no real risk of altitude sickness). Pokhara tourist city which is 200 km. away from Kathamndu is the closest main access city to begin treks into the Annapurna range.
Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek 5 days is an exciting trekking package that will let you explore the major attractions of Annapurna region in just 5 days. trekking in Poonhill is especially for those adventure lovers who are bounded by their time limits. Poon hill which is located at 3210m altitude is the maximum height that we will reach by participating in easy Poonhill treks. The short Poonhill trekking route continues through forest of blooming rhododendrons and bamboos and takes us through villages of Gurung and Magar ethnics.
Poonhill short hiking begins from Nayapul. One can gain access to Nayapul after taking one hour of ride from Pokhara. Pokhara can be reached either through 25minutes of flight from domestic aqirport in Kathmandu or following Prithvi Highway for 5hours.
Leaving Nayapul, we will follow the dirt trail through Birethati to Tikhedhunga settlement. You will cross Ghorepani and reach Poonhill. Poonhill offers panoramic views of several snow-clad mountains and peaks like Gangapurna Mountain, Annapurna South Mountain, Annapurna I mountain, Dhaulagiri Mountain and Hiunchuli Mountain. After getting the engrossing views of mountains, you will take the downward trail and reach Ghandruk that provides homestay facility. From Ghandruk, the trail drops to Nayapul.
Poonhill short trekking can be taken throughout the year but May is considered best month for short Poonhill hike.
Day 01:
Kathmandu – Pokhara– Nayapul 7 hrs. 1 min drive (244.8 km) –Tikhedhunga (1,495m/4 ,905ft): 4 hours trek 9.2 km km
Early morning, transfer to Kathmandu’s Intercity Bus Park and Drive to Pokhara. Then, drive along the Mountain Highway route to Nayapul (in total 7 hours drive) , Then our much waited exciting adventure walking jouney does start from Nayapul, we follow our trek to Birethanti, a large and prosperous riverside village at the confluence of the Modi and Bhurungdi Kholas (streams). We hike up to Sudame along the off road and then climb gradually up the side of the valley, Tikhedhunga.
Nayapul to Tikhedhunga distance is pretty easy beginning of Poon hill trek with mind blowing driving and sightseeing from Pokhara to Nayapul. Nayapul to Tikhedhunga trek distance is 9.2 kilometers / 5.7 miles. It takes 4 hours to reach Tikhedhungafrom Nayapul via Birethanti, Lamdawali, Sudame and Hile.
Day 02: TikheDhunga - Ghorepani (2,850m/9,350ft), 5-6 hrs DISTANCE 12.9KM
Cross suspension metal bridge and steep ascent on stone staircases to the village of Ulleri – and an amazing landscape of valley floor where we came during the day with marvelous views of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli.
Steep trek for about 2hrs will take us to Ulleri (2070m). We will cross the Magar village of Banthanti from where we can get spectacular views of Machhapuchhre Mountain (6997m), Hiunchuli Mountain (6441m) and Annapurna South Mountain (7219m). We will cross the small river and climb to Nangethanti. We will arrive at Ghorepani from where we can get soaring views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Annapurna I and other mountains.
Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani trek is a part of the Poon hill trek which provides an excellent view of the Annapurna and the Dhaulagiri range. Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani distance is 12.9 kilometers / 8 miles. It takes 6 to 7 hours to reach Ghorepani fromTikhedhunga all the way through Ulleri, Banthanti, Nangge thanti.
Day 03: Walk up Poon hill (3,210m/10,528ft). Ghorepani – Tadapani (2,520m/8268ft), 7-8hrs, 12km
Poonhill is popular for best sunrise view in Pokhara. We will rise very early and reach the base of Poonhill. About an hour of climb will take us to Poonhill viewpoint. We can get sunrise view over Dhaulagiri Mountain (8167m), Annapurna I Mountain (8091m), Annapurna II Mountain (7937m), Annapurna III Mountain (7855m), Annapurna IV Mountain (7525m), Annapurna South Mountain (729m), Nilgiri Mountain (6940m), Tukuche Mountain (6920m), Varaha Shikhar (7847m), Lamjung Himal (6931m) and other mountains. We will return to hotel in Ghorepani for breakfast and then take descending trail to Tadapani village from where we can get views of Annapurna South, Annapurna II, Fishtail and other mountains.
Day 04: Tadapani – Ghandruk 1,940 m– : 5 Hours hrs trek 9.5 km DISTANCE
3hrs of easy walk through forest of oak, rhododendron and other alpine flowers will take us to Ghandruk. Ghandruk is the large Gurung village. We can get striking views of Annapurna South, Gangapurna, Machhapuchhre, Annapurna III, Hiunchuli and other Mountains from viewpoint in Ghandruk. Homestay in Ghandruk is a pleasant experience. We will be welcomed by the locals with Khada and traditional dance will be performed in evening in our honor.
Day05: Ghandruk to Nayapul (5 hours on foot) then to 1.45 hours drive (45 KM) Pokhara 910
From Ghandruk, we will lower down through the scenic route with views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Fishtail and Gangapurna Mountains. We will cross the forest of blooming rhododendron and reach Birethanti from where we will take the downhill walk and follow Modi Khola till we reach Nayapul from where we will Take Micro-Bus and reach Pokhara in an 1.45 hours.
